Assoc. Prof. Gary GROSSMAN (Arizona State University, USA)
Dr. Gary M. Grossman, Associate Director for Programs in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and Associate Professor in the Global Technology and Development (GTD) graduate program, offers more than four decades of experience in the management of social, education, technology, and employment and training projects in the United States and abroad. With a career beginning in specific applications of civil liberties and community development policy in the United States in the early 1970’s and later, concerning uses of technology in American youth and adult education programs in the 1980’s, Dr. Grossman’s career extended abroad through his work as an executive at the Center on Education and Training for Employment at The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, he conducted highly successful education and training programs in the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, and South and East Asia, with a specific focus on education reform, primarily at the post-secondary level.
Dr. Grossman joined the faculty of Arizona State University (ASU) in 1994 as an Associate Professor of Information and Management Technology. Once in place, he began to organize the International Projects Unit (IPU) which operated from 1996-2001. Utilizing a perspective emphasizing the interface of social and education policy and its impacts in trade, education, technology, and other aspects of life in the United States and abroad, Dr. Grossman built the IPU into an organization that was recognized for its unique contributions to project management and specific applications of technology for training, information, and human resource purposes.
Trained as a sociologist and experienced in the administration of World Bank, U.S. Government and privately funded projects, Dr. Grossman also led the development of a unique transdisciplinary, transnational major in ASU’s Master of Science in Technology program. This degree concentration, entitled ‘Global Technology and Development’, features the combined perspectives of social science research and emerging technological models and is aimed at providing students an opportunity to explore the critical questions of globalization, commerce, sustainable development, information technology, transportation, education, and biotechnology which affect all nations. Classes in the GTD program began in the Fall, 2001 semester. In 2009, GTD became part of the School of Letters and Sciences. In the same year, Dr. Grossman joined faculty of the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes (CSPO) at ASU’s Tempe campus. By 2012, GTD emerged as a stand-alone Masters Degree in the College of Letters and Sciences. In 2015, GTD became a featured graduate program in ASU’s new School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS). Dr. Grossman was named Associate Director for Programs as a key member in SFIS’ founding directorate.
Dr. Grossman is internationally recognized for leadership in his areas of interest and has built his career on the mutuality of interests between higher education and the needs of the society of which it is a part, both in his native country and around the world. Dr. Grossman was awarded two consecutive Fulbright Grants from 2002-2004 and spent that period engaged in research and teaching at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.

Learning, which originates in a desire for knowledge, has always been fundamental in the shaping of social life. It has lost nothing of its importance with developments in technology. Under the influence of Information Technology (IT), learning has acquired new dimensions, discussed quite regularly on many levels.
The aim of this conference is to discuss future innovations in the field of learning. The conference will encourage a debate on strategies for the development of the most effective methods, techniques, and technologies that will serve humankind in the lifelong learning process. Human beings are, after all, centrally involved in learning, and its fundamental “raison d’être”. This year, to be different from other years, the special theme of the conference “Next Generation” has been selected.
Please click here to access the research topics of the conference.
“Learning”, which in itself is an innovation, promises to acquire even greater importance in the future. We are therefore calling for contributions (research papers, posters, workshops, and panels) focusing on future learning and next generation, and examining the related issues through original research and exploration.
